A-EON Technology and Hyperion Entertainment announced today that the AmigaOne X1000 “First Contact” systems are now shipping. They also reported that the AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 CD has gone gold. This is excellent news and I can’t wait to read the first reviews of the AmigaOne X1000. 🙂 Congratulations to everyone involved and to the lucky ones waiting for their new machines to arrive.

AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 CD for the AmigaONE X1000 “First Contact” system has gone GOLD!
A-EON Technology and Hyperion Entertainment are pleased to announce that the AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 CD, exclusively created for the AmigaONE X1000 “First Contact” system has gone gold. The professionally re-mastered CD will be supplied in a printed boxed set along with copies of the AmigaONE X1000 and AmigaOS 4.1 “Quick Start” guides. Steven Solie, Hyperion Entertainment’s AmigaOS Development Team Lead said, “The team worked hard to reach this important milestone in the development of the Amiga Operating System. With AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 completed for the AmigaONE X1000 we can concentrate on versions for all the other supported hardware platforms as we continue to push towards the future release of AmigaOS 4.2.” Trevor Dickinson added, “I would like to thank the AmigaOS developers and the whole AmigaONE X1000 betatest team who have worked so tirelessly behinds the scenes to make this a reality. I would also like to give special thanks to a few key members of the team who went above and beyond the “call of duty” to ensure the success of this project. You know who you are.” The AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 boxed set will be supplied to all AmigaONE X1000 “First Contact” customers who will also receive a free update to AmigaOS 4.2 when it is commercially released by Hyperion Entertainment.

Welcome to the club. I can’t afford an AmigaOne X1000 either, as it is too expensive for me. The AmigaOne 500 is better priced, but also a bit on the expensive side. Fortunately the netbook will be affordable, so I’m definitely going to buy one. Good to hear that you will too. 🙂 Do you think it will be released before the summer? I sure hope so. Would be awesome to have such a netbook on vacation. Then I could get my Amiga-fix anywhere, anytime.. 😉

Oh yes, it would be excellent if they shipped it with OS4.2. Let’s hope for the best. 🙂 Hopefully it won’t be delayed for too long.

I think I am going to wait for OS4.2 to come out and order that. I am afraid if I purchase 4.1 now they will release 4.2 right after it. I can hang on for now. All I do is program and for what I do it does the job.

Sounds like Amiga is gaining solid ground. I hope they manage to compete again with the others. I may be an Apple (and now Linux.) user, but I am all for competition as well as people having more choices than the status quo for a computer and operating system.

Thanks for commenting. 🙂 Let’s hope so. Competition and diversity is good for the computer market. Things are looking brighter for the Amiga today than it did a few years ago. It will be very interesting to following the news this year. I’m eagerly waiting for the netbook.. it should sell well I think. 🙂
